Israeli Sovereignty Over Golan Heights Declared And Signed By Trump

On Monday, US President Donald Trump signed a declaration recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the contested Golan heights, the border seized from Syria in 1967.

“It has been a long time,” Trump said with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. The recognition of the United States for Israel’s control over the territory has been violated by decades of international consensus.

Netanyahu called the recognition "historic" and said that the Golan Heights, to which Syria still claims, will remain under the constant control of Israel. “We will never give it up,” he said.

“Your statement comes at a time when the Golan are more important than ever for our security,” he said.

US President Donald Trump on Monday officially recognizes Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his side, Vice President Mike Pence said.

“Today, for the first time in 52 years, when Prime Minister Netanyahu will be on his side, the US President officially recognizes Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights,” said Pence with applause, referring to the US pro-Israel lobby AIPAC.
